Koraput: The bodies of a woman and her teenage son, who had been missing since Feb 20, have been recovered from separate canals in Koraput district. The deceased were identified as Anushka Parida, 45, and her 14-year-old son, Aham. While Aham’s body was recovered on Monday from the Andaramunda canal under Kotpad police station limits, his mother’s body was recovered on Tuesday from Jayantigiri main canal under Borigumma police station limits.
Police said Aham’s body was found stuffed inside a sack. Acting on information provided by residents on Tuesday morning, police along with fire service personnel recovered Anushka’s body from another canal. Her body was also packed in a sack.Anushka’s brother, Satyaban Patra, had lodged a complaint at Borigumma police station after his sister and nephew went missing.Preliminary investigation suggests the killings may be linked to the family’s alleged opposition to a relationship between Anushka’s minor daughter and a local youth.“On suspicion, the daughter and her boyfriend have been detained and are being interrogated. Initial investigation points to a family dispute. Further details will emerge once the probe is completed,” said SP (Koraput), Rohit Verma.
