A forest fire broke out in the Zabarwan Hills on Tuesday evening, triggering an immediate response from firefighting authorities.
Officials said the blaze erupted in the Zabarwan Range, following which teams from the S.Park Range of the Urban Forestry Division Srinagar and the Forest Protection Force were rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Waqas Wadoo, Range Officer of S.Park Range, said the fire was reported during the evening hours and teams were promptly mobilised.
“Firefighting teams from S.Park Range and the Forest Protection Force rushed to the location, and the operation is currently underway,” he said.
He added that the teams were forced to climb the hills on foot as there is no motorable road leading to the affected area, making the operation more challenging.
Efforts were on till the filing of this report to douse the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored.
