Pune: Over 20 cars and 50 two-wheelers parked on an open ground in front of the state land records office in Yerawada were gutted in a fire that broke out on Monday afternoon. No injuries were reported in the incident, officials from the city fire brigade said.Four fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames, and the blaze was brought under control after nearly two hours.“We received the emergency call at 12.26pm and our teams rushed to the spot. All the vehicles parked on the ground were used and discarded ones,” said fire station officer Sopan Pawar, adding, “Four govt four-wheelers that had been withdrawn from service were also gutted in the fire.”“There was dried grass around the vehicles, and we suspect that someone might have thrown a burning cigarette or matchstick into it, following which the fire spread rapidly and engulfed the vehicles,” he said.“Dense smoke billowed across the area, and the flames were visible from far-off locations,” added Pawar.
