Kanpur: Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal formed a 14-member special investigation team to probe the fake marksheet case in Kanpur. The Kidwai Nagar police had earlier arrested four members of the gang involved in buying and selling of fake marksheets and other documents. A SIT, comprising of five teams, was formed to investigate the network of the fraudsters. The team included an ACP, three crime branch inspectors, six sub-inspectors, and three constables. Teams have been assigned different tasks including verification, surveillance and apprehending the fugitives. Besides, they would also examine bank accounts and question those who had taken the services of the gang for fake documents. The police team would also visit the concerned universities to verify the authenticity of the degrees against official records. SIT chief ADCP Yogesh Kumar said that efforts were being made to identify the lawyers who helped in creating the fake documents and summon them for questioning. One such lawyer was reportedly from Babupurwa. tnn
