After a long day at work, chilling with your closest friends is considered therapeutic, and what better way to unwind than at a restaurant while winning prizes for answering trivia questions?Well, Goans are slowly but surely getting into quiz nights, which take place two to three times a month in different restaurants.A NEW TRENDFinding new ideas to keep the groove going is what restaurateurs are looking at.“This is a different form of entertainment which is slightly different from others like a stand-up comedy night or an improv night. Though it’s relatively new in Goa, it’s catching up,” says Alroy Fernandes, who has been hosting quiz nights since 2021.He adds, “When I started it, there was just one spot where I used to have it. But now there are many restaurants that are opening their doors for quiz nights.”Sullivan Noronha, a quiz master from North Goa, says that more restaurants are ready to host them. “Quiz nights are getting popular among locals, and this brings in a lot of people since they are held on specific days. The difficulty level also varies, but these quizzes are not like the serious quiz nights,” says Sullivan.Community friendshipSandra Fernandes and her girl gang were part of the quiz night, where they lost the round but ended up having loads of fun. “We wanted to do something different than just going to a restaurant to eat. So a friend suggested a quiz night, and we went to it. It was truly amazing. Initially, we thought it would be tough and we might not even make it. But it ended up being a fun time,” says Sandra.Siddharth Prabhu, who won a bottle of wine, was thrilled to win a prize which he will be sharing with a few new friends he made at the dinner quiz night. “Our team was winning and they were losing, so instead of just winning, we decided to share the bottle of wine. In the bargain, we made new friends,” said Siddharth. The prizes depend on the restaurants—some have offers, some give out merchandise, and even bottles of wine.A lot of researchThe questions at quiz nights range from geography, pop culture, music, mythology, Bollywood, and much more. “I have to spend a few hours coming up with the questions, and we cannot use the same questions for the next quiz night. In fact, there are many regular customers who attend. This means I have to get my research sorted and the answers right,” says Sullivan.
