Jamshedpur: Over 1,200 poll personnel, ballot boxes, and logistics were sent to the 249 booths across the three civic bodies — Mango Municipality Corporation (MMC), Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) and Chakulia Nagar Panchayat (CNP) — from the dispatch and receiving centre at the Jugsalai-cum-Golmuri block office on Sunday.There are 190 polling booths in Mango, 41 in Jugsalai, and 18 in Chakulia, respectively. A total of 119 booths fall under the hyper-sensitive and sensitive booths category in Mango, 38 in Jugsalai, and all 18 booths in Chakulia.District electoral officer (DEO) Karn Satyarthi visited the dispatch centre to oversee the dispatch on 80 passenger buses and 30 pick-up vans. “Security has been heightened at the hyper-sensitive and sensitive booths. Police force and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) were deployed at the sensitive booths in Mango and Jugsalai civic areas and the district police were put on alert mode from Sunday afternoon. Drones would be used for aerial surveillance. Steps have also been taken to ensure ballot boxes reach the receiving centre safely after the polling.”A total of 196,791 voters in Mango, 44,239 in Jugsalai, and 12,587 in Chakulia are expected to exercise their franchise to elect a mayoral candidate for Mango and a chairman for each of Jugsalai and Chakulia, respectively. Electors would elect councillors in 70 wards across the three municipalities.Sectoral magistrates and sectoral police officials were jointly briefed by SSP Piyush Pandey and himself to ensure fair and peaceful polling.
