Amravati: The Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University will confer degrees to 42,317 students at the 42nd convocation to be held on Monday on the campus. Former Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande (Retd) will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address.Milind Barhate, vice chancellor, will preside over while Mahendra Dhore, pro V-C, will be the guest of honour. “The highlight of this year’s convocation is 80% of the 168 awards going to female students,” said Barhate while addressing the media on Saturday. Nikita Kishor Punse, a student from Nehru College, Ner Parsopant, topped the list with six gold medals and one cash prize. Pallavi Rathod (Washim) secured five gold medals, while Tejaswini Bhagat (Shegaon) and Saishwari Indurkar (Amravati) each won four gold medals.The university will also confer the ‘Acharya’ (PhD) degree to 466 researchers.Postgraduate diploma will be conferred on 255 students. Faculty-wise 17,155 degrees will be awarded for Science & Technology, 10,787 in Humanites, Commerce & Management (7,913), and Interdisciplinary Studies (4,433)The convocation will also confer degrees to students from five autonomous institutions, including engineering colleges and Government Vidarbha Institute of Science and Humanities. Registrar Avinash Asanare, director of Board of Examination and Evaluation Nitin Koli and other University officers were present at press briefing.
