Kolkata: A 69-year-old senior citizen from Survey Park lost about Rs 89,960 from his public bank account in an alleged ATM fraud last month. The victim lodged a complaint with Survey Park Police Station on Friday. According to cops, besides the loss of money, Rs 35 lakh of the victim’s funds had remained frozen. On Dec 20, the victim was allegedly deceived by an unidentified person at an ATM kiosk of the bank at Jadavpur Sandhyabazar. The accused allegedly exchanged the debit card that the victim was using at the kiosk with another card and left the premises. Police said within minutes, four cash withdrawals of Rs 10,000 each were carried out. The withdrawals were reported to have been made from a private bank ATM near Jadavpur 8B bus stand. Later, a statement was also taken out from the ATM kiosk of another private bank in the same area, police said. Police said the card was then used for other transactions later the same day. It was allegedly used for purchasing jewellery worth Rs 37,400 at Baruipur, then for buying liquor from an outlet worth Rs 3,560 and Rs 200. A fuel purchase of Rs 9,000 was also made at a petrol pump near Dhapdhapi station. The alleged value of purchases was Rs 49,960. Probe is on.
