Hails role of CRPF in bringing peace & progress in J&K, Northeast
Nation set to be free from Naxalism by Mar 31
JAMMU, FEB 21: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, today lauded the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for its pivotal role in restoring peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and Left-Wing Extremism-affected areas during the 87th Raising Day celebrations in Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, CRPF Director General, and several dignitaries were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said that CRPF’s dedication and sacrifices over the past 86 years have been instrumental in transforming the country’s three major internal security hotspots into engines of growth.
“After the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, not a single bullet had to be fired. Incidents of stone-pelting have come down to zero, industries are emerging, and development is taking place, with CRPF, BSF, and especially the Jammu and Kashmir Police playing a key role,” he noted.
Tracing CRPF’s journey from its inception in 1939 with just two battalions, Shah highlighted that today the force has grown into the world’s largest Central Armed Police Force with 248 battalions and 3.25 lakh personnel. “Whether it is securing the Amarnath Yatra, the Mahakumbh, foiling attacks on Parliament and Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, or confronting Naxalites and external threats, CRPF has always ensured the enemy’s defeat,” he said.
In a statement issued by PIB, Shah emphasised the significance of the Raising Day celebrations being held in the Northeast for the first time, calling it a matter of pride for the region. He also announced that 14 CRPF jawans were awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry, 5 received the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, and 5 battalions were honored for outstanding performance.
Highlighting CRPF’s role in countering Left-Wing Extremism, he said, “Under Operation Black Forest, our personnel endured extreme conditions for 21 days, dismantling Naxal strongholds. Thanks to their courage, the country is on the verge of being free from Naxalism by March 31, 2026.”
Shah also paid tribute to the 2,270 CRPF jawans who laid down their lives protecting the nation. “The bravery, courage, and determination of CRPF personnel are etched in the history of India’s internal security,” he said, reaffirming the force’s status as a cornerstone of national safety and sovereignty.
