Navi Mumbai: Police detected the murder case of a daily wage labourer and arrested the victim’s friend within 12 hours of FIR registration. On Tuesday morning, the victim was found under Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari bridge near Society naka in Panvel, with his head smashed with a huge stone. Investigating officer, PSI Anant Parage said other labourers in the locality identified the victim as Vijay (full name not known). Some labourers said Vijay and his friend Sitaram Yadav (39), also a labourer, would often consume liquor under the bridge and on Monday night, a quarrel broke out between them. Yadav became the prime suspect as he was last seen with Vijay. Parage said, “As both the victim and Yadav neither had an Aadhaar card nor they used mobile phones, it was difficult to trace Yadav’s location. However, we succeeded in apprehending Yadav from Panvel around 9 pm, within 12 hours of registering an FIR. From the crime scene, the forensic team has collected the blood-stained stone used by Yadav to smash Vijay’s head and face, along with a sample of soil mixed with blood. On Wednesday, Yadav was produced before Belapur court that has remanded him to police custody for seven days.“In a separate case, Rabale MIDC police had found a body dumped in the open space near a pump house along the nullah on the road leading to Gupta Weighbridge in Mahape MIDC area on Monday around 8.30 am and identified him as Sandeep Vishwakarma (32), a resident of Trombay, Mumbai.
