Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin on Friday asked the DMK IT wing functionaries not to be complacent and wanted them to `set agenda’ rather than countering opposition criticism.Speaking at a meeting of IT wing functionaries, titled `DMK Loading 2.0′ in Chennai, Stalin asserted that the party’s IT wing must move beyond “defensive replies” and take control of the social media narrative ahead of the 2026 assembly election.“We should be more active online. Your job online is not to trend a hashtag; it is to set the agenda. We are kings in content,” Stalin said, urging cadre to proactively highlight govt achievements, welfare schemes and infrastructure projects. He called for coordinated dissemination of videos, local updates and official communications to ensure that the DMK’s narrative dominated both online and offline spaces without “leaving any gap till elections.”Stalin trained his guns on right-wing social media networks, alleging that several BJP-linked accounts functioned solely to spread misinformation. “A mix of official handles and meme pages was used to circulate designed fake news to create unrest in the state. If a false claim is made, respond immediately with evidence in comments and replies. Let them delete their own lies,” Stalin said, referring to a recent instance where, he alleged, a Union minister deleted a tweet after coordinated rebuttals.Stalin also said the DMK was the only political party in India to deploy digital agents at the booth level.
