“Are young people getting jobs here? Wherever there’s a BJP government, they send money to women before elections. But were those women given security in those five years? Crime is on the rise here. How many women were given jobs in these five years? How many women were helped to stand on their own feet?” she said.
On Friday, she also launched a scathing attack on chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his charges against Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi for his alleged Pakistan links, calling such personal attacks “wrong politics”.
Addressing the press after paying homage to singer, the late Zubeen Garg, at ‘Zubeen Khetra’ in Sonapur, Vadra said dragging a political leader’s family and children into public discourse was unacceptable.
“There are two types of leaders in politics, one who does positive politics and the other who does polarisation. Gaurav Gogoi is doing the politics of love. That is why such attacks are taking place. But attacks on him and his family are wrong. Nobody should target the family and children of a political leader.”
She urged the chief minister to focus on pressing public concerns instead of engaging in personal allegations. “The government should talk about the youth and women who are looking for jobs,” the Wayanad MP said.
On February 8, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made public the findings of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe. He said there was violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s wife British national Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi while she was working as consultant for Lead India.According to the state government, this whole report points to a larger foreign-linked effort to influence India’s internal political and policy discourse. The Assam Cabinet has decided to transfer the case to the Ministry of Home Affairs asserting the need for a central agency-led investigation.
Gaurav Gogoi is the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president. The report stated that while she was working as the Pakistan-based not-for-profit organisation, Lead Pakistan, she had shared a 45-page report to the organisation, where she quoted Intelligence Bureau assessments following the change in political regime in India after 2014.

She said: “Zubeen Garg was above politics. His cremation ground should remain a sacred place and should not be used for political gain.”
Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore on September 19 last year, leaving fans across the region in shock. Durga Puja and Diwali celebrations were low key as the state was mourning his death. Garg died under mysterious circumstances in Singapore. There were protests and demands seeking justice for Garg.
