Jalandhar: In probably a first-of-its-kind move from a Sikh Takht, Takht Patna Sahib issued a directive to the Sikh community against “false propaganda, rumours and misleading interpretation” against Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma. The cause and concern of Panthic unity and the larger interests of the community were also cited in the directive.Issued on Tuesday with the title ‘The directive by five high priests of Takht Patna Sahib’, it was signed by Takht Patna Sahib superintendent Daljit Singh. Baba Dhuma’s Facebook page shared it on Tuesday late evening. “In recent days, there seems to be an unfortunate and condemnable attempt to spread rumours and false propaganda within the Sikh community through social media and other channels, which is harmful to the unity of the Panth. Sant Baba Harnam Singh Ji Khalsa, the head of Damdami Taksal, is continuously serving the community through the promotion of Gurmat, Amrit Sanchar events, and selfless service. Some mischievous and anti-Panth elements, apprehensive of his growing popularity and influence, are making false accusations to tarnish his character,” the directive reads.“Such false propaganda campaigns are not only condemnable but also against the Panthic code and the honour of the great personalities. The wrong statements being made against the saints and Gurmat preachers will never be tolerated. We sternly warn these elements to immediately cease all false propaganda, rumours, and misleading interpretations,” it said.“The honourable 5 Panj Piare (beloved ones) Singh Sahibans of Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib instruct the entire community to immediately stop any false propaganda, rumours, or wrong statements that harm Panthic unity. Stay away from such actions and follow Gurmat. We humbly appeal to the entire Sikh community not to share any video or post without proper verification. It is our collective responsibility to maintain the unity and progress of the Panth by staying wise, composed, and adhering to the path of Gurmat. Let us all unite to avoid false propaganda, remain steadfast on the path of truth and Gurbani, and strengthen Panthic unity. May Waheguru grant the entire community wisdom and understanding to keep the Panth united, progressing, and ensure the victory of truth,” the directive concluded.Though different Sikh personalities, including Takht jathedars, came under criticism from Sikh community members and organisations, and at times acerbic language was used against them, it is the first time that a Sikh Takht issued such a “directive” for a particular Sikh personality. The Taksal chief came under sharp criticism from different Sikh quarters, especially after the Sikh seminary, which was once headed by Jarnail Singh Bhindrawnale, announced its alignment with the BJP.
