T’puram: Senior journalist K Govindan Kutty passed away on Wednesday at the age of 81. He died at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram and had been ailing for the past few months. He iss survived by his wife Saradamony, and a son and a daughter. The funeral will be held later. Govindan Kutty, who was affectionately called KGK in journalistic circles, started his career with All India Radio and later moved to print journalism, working with various national publications. He reported news stories that were discussed at both national and state levels. He was the first to report the 1977 crash of a plane carrying the then Prime Minister Morarji Desai. He travelled with the then PM on the same flight to cover Desai’s Northeast visit.
He also wrote the biography of former chief minister K Karunakaran. He authored 10 books in English and Malayalam. His major works include ‘An Intimate Story’, a book on former chief election commissioner T N Seshan. His other noted works include ‘A Wasted Death’, which chronicled the rise and fall of ‘biscuit baron’ Rajan Pillai, and ‘Kalakshepam’ (Time Pass) in Malayalam.
