Patna: Chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit on Thursday directed the sports department to strengthen monitoring at panchayat-level sports complexes by installing CCTV cameras and institutionalising the functioning of sports clubs, while pushing for greater transparency and PPP-driven growth in the sector.Chairing a review meeting, he asked officials to promote the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in the sports sector and ensure transparency in procuring sports equipment through price control measures.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of 27 Eklavya centres, he instructed officials to operationalise the remaining centres at the earliest. He also directed that regular secretary-level inspections be conducted to build a robust monitoring mechanism for effective implementation of sports schemes across the state.“A clear policy framework should be developed for public and private partnerships, ensuring active participation of all stakeholders,” he said, stressing the involvement of local industries in promoting sports activities and encouraging youth participation in competitions.To ensure accountability at the grassroots, he directed that each sports club be assigned a district sports officer, a state coach and a physical education teacher. To prevent monopoly and ensure transparency in procurement, he instructed that suppliers and vendors be empanelled through an open call so that all sports clubs receive quality equipment at uniform rates.The department informed him that a half marathon is planned in Nov and in Feb next year.
