COIMBATORE: The fifth additional district judge court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his friend during a drunken brawl outside a Tasmac bar near Madukkarai in 2019.Judge P K Sivakumar sentenced J Mujibur Rahman, 29, of Arignar Anna Nagar on the Echanari Road to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. According to police, Mujibur Rahman and the victim, B Dijeshwaran, 23, were friends. On Feb 24, 2019, Dijeshwaran was drinking liquor in a Tasmac bar on the Madukkarai Market Road along with his friends. Mujibur, who is also a friend of Dijeshwaran, came to the bar and allegedly demanded money from him. Dijeshwaran refused to give him money, after which Mujibur left. Later, when Dijeshwaran came out of the bar, Mujibur again demanded money to buy cigarettes, leading to a scuffle that was stopped by bystanders.Later, Mujibur confronted Dijeshwaran again and assaulted him with a stone, causing severe head injuries. Dijeshwaran died on the spot. Podanur police arrested Mujibur on the same day. Additional public prosecutor S Mohan Prabu appeared for the prosecution in the court.
