Artificial intelligence (AI) has entered into public systems such as elections. At the India-AI Impact Summit 2026, one of the most talked-about presentations came from Bihar’s State Election Commission which showcased a mobile-based AI-driven remote voting system.
According to a report in NDTV, the commission is preparing to scale this model further and may expand it for use in the next Assembly elections.
Let’s take a look at this tech innovation in detail.
What Is Bihar’s AI-Based Remote Voting Model?
Bihar has introduced what it calls India’s first mobile-enabled remote voting platform. The system was first used during the 2025 urban local body elections and later presented at the summit as a model of digital governance.
The voting facility works through dedicated Android application, namely “e-Voting SECBHR” which is developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in collaboration with the State Election Commission.
The system is designed mainly for people who face difficulty reaching polling booths. This includes migrant workers living outside their home districts, students, senior citizens, pregnant women, persons with disabilities and those who are unwell.
