Chennai: Madras high court on Wednesday reserved its orders on a plea moved by Tamil Nadu govt seeking to cancel the interim bail granted to YouTuber Savukku Shankar on medical grounds.A division bench of Justice P Velmurugan and Justice M Jothiraman concluded the final hearing of the plea moved by the Saidapet police, who argued that the bail must be cancelled as Shankar had violated bail conditions on multiple occasions.
It was further alleged that Shankar’s health condition was not as bad as portrayed by his mother in her habeas corpus. A court-appointed medical team from Rajiv Gandhi Govt General Hospital (RGGGH) evaluated Shankar’s medical condition and filed a report. On Wednesday, when the plea came up for hearing, senior advocate V Raghavachari, representing Shankar, submitted that the medical report does not share the permissible limits as lab reports normally do. He further said Shankar’s health would deteriorate if he is incarcerated and that he has an aged mother to take care of. Prosecutor R Muniyapparaj contended that the police can give an undertaking that Shankar would be taken to a govt hospital if need arose. Probe in the cases against Shankar was totally defeated due to his conduct, he added. The bench said they made it clear that the bail automatically stands cancelled in case of violation of the conditions.TNN
