COIMBATORE: A polytechnic college student was killed after being run over by a private bus on Avinashi Road here on Wednesday morning.The traffic investigation wing (East) police identified the accident victim as P Govardhana Manibharathi, 18, of Melapalayam near Chennimalai in Erode district. He was a final-year student at a private polytechnic college in Peelamedu, where he was staying in a rental room.A police officer said the accident occurred when Manibharathi was on his way to the college on a two-wheeler. “Suddenly, a private bus heading towards Gandhipuram in the city hit the handlebar of his bike. He lost balance, fell on the road and his head was crushed under the wheels of the bus. He died on the spot.”When alerted, the Peelamedu traffic police and the traffic investigation wing police sent the body to the govt ESI Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.Police have registered a case against the bus driver, identified as B Pushparaj, 27, of Meenakulam village in Virudhunagar district.
