SRINAGAR, UT J&K: As the crescent moon heralds the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, Syed Irfan Hashmi, prominent socio-political activist and lead of the Ind Media Team (UT J&K), has extended his warmest congratulations and spiritual greetings to the Muslim community across the globe.
In a statement issued today, Mr. Irfan Hashmi emphasized the importance of compassion, reflection, and community during this sacred period. However, he balanced his celebratory message with a stern appeal to the Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) administration, citing a dire need for proactive governance to prevent the “administrative negligence” that characterized previous years.
Reflecting on the hardships faced by the common people last year, Mr. Hashmi criticized the administration’s past inability to regulate skyrocketing inflation and maintain basic utilities.
Ramadan is a time of spiritual peace, but for many in the Valley, it has become a season of economic distress due to administrative failure,” Mr. Hashmi stated. “We saw a total lack of price control and basic service delivery last year. This year, the people of J&K expect and deserve better. We will not tolerate a repeat of that negligence.
Five Point Charter of Demands
Mr. Irfan Hashmi has formally urged the LG administration to ensure the following “Essential Five” services are secured immediately:
Strict Price Regulation: A crackdown on the “self-imposed” price hikes of meat, vegetables, and sugar. With meat prices previously hitting ₹700+ per kg, Mr. Hashmi demands intensive ground-level monitoring to curb hoarding.
Power & Water Stability: Uninterrupted electricity and water supply must be guaranteed, specifically during the critical windows of Sehri and Iftar.
Ration Availability: Sufficient stocks of rice and flour must be stocked in both open markets and government depots to meet the increased seasonal demand.
Sanitation & Lighting: Municipal bodies are urged to intensify cleanliness drives and ensure proper street lighting around mosques and shrines for the convenience of devotees during late-night prayers.
Direct Monitoring: A call for the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor to personally oversee these arrangements to ensure accountability across all departments.
A Mission for National Awareness
Mr. Irfan Hashmi reiterated that the Ind Media Team remains committed to promoting the development and welfare of UT J&K on a national stage. He concluded by praying for the prosperity of the nation and the global Muslim Ummah, while reminding the local administration that “the true spirit of service lies in easing the burdens of the common citizen.”
