Jammu, Feb 17: The Government on Tuesday informed the House that the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Hariganiwan in Kangan of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district caters to an approximate population of 21,500 and is equipped with essential medical facilities, while the feasibility of making it functional on a 24×7 basis will be examined as per applicable norms.
Replying to a starred question raised by Mian Mehar Ali, MLA Kangan, the Government stated that PHC Hariganiwan is housed in a double-storied building and provides facilities including OPD, IPD ward, laboratory services, X-Ray, immunization and a casualty room.
The MLA had sought to know whether it was a fact that PHC Hariganiwan caters to a population of around 30,000 and whether there was any proposal under consideration to make the health centre functional round the clock.
In its reply, the Government clarified that the PHC caters to approximately 21,500 souls and not 30,000 as mentioned in the question.
It further stated that the nearest higher medical facilities include Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kangan located at a distance of 11 kilometres and PHC Gund situated 10 kilometres away, both of which are functioning on a 24×7 basis.
Regarding the demand to upgrade PHC Hariganiwan to 24×7 services, the Government said that the feasibility of making the hospital functional round the clock shall be examined in accordance with the applicable norms.
