Chandrapur: The prime suspect in the high-profile kidney racket, which has drawn national attention, is allegedly refusing to cooperate with investigators, even as he appears daily before police under court-ordered conditions. Dr Ravinder Pal Singh, a Delhi-based doctor, has been reporting to investigating officers in Chandrapur following directions issued by the Nagpur Bench of the High Court while granting him conditional anticipatory bail.
Police sources said Dr Singh has repeatedly responded with “I don’t remember” to key questions, hampering progress in the investigation. Investigators are now considering submitting a formal report to the court detailing what they describe as his lack of cooperation.The investigation into the kidney racket linked to Roshan Mule from Nagbhid had earlier revealed that the surgery was carried out at Star Kings Hospital in Trichy. Dr Rajratnam Govindasami and Dr Ravinder Pal Singh are suspected to have been involved in the procedure. Dr Singh had approached the high court seeking anticipatory bail, following which the court had wanted him conditional anticipatory bail.According to the probe so far, Dr Singh allegedly charged Rs35 lakh to travel from Delhi to perform the transplant in Trichy. However, police claim he has failed to provide satisfactory explanations about how the money was distributed among other alleged participants or about the wider network behind the racket.The high court had directed Dr Singh to remain present before Chandrapur police between 10am and 5pm from February 11 to 16. The final hearing on Dr Singh’s anticipatory bail is scheduled for February 18.
