Gorakhpur: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath performed Rudrabhishek of Lord Shiva at the Shaktipeeth in Gorakhnath Temple and prayed for the health, prosperity and peace of the people of the state, on Mahashivratri on Sunday.Yogi performed ritual bathing of the deity with milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar, followed by a ‘Rudrabhishek’ performed as per Vedic tradition. Priests and scholars recited hymns from the Shukla Yajurveda’s Rudrashtadhyayi during the ceremony. Yogi later offered prayers for the welfare of all.The CM also visited the ancient Mansarovar Temple at Andhiyari Bagh, where he performed darshan and offered milk and water amid ‘abhishek’ amid Vedic chants, concluding the ritual with a ‘havan’ and ‘aarti’. MP Ravi Kishan Shukla and Gorakhpur mayor Manglesh Srivastava were among those present.Later in the day, Yogi reached Piteshwarnath Shiv Temple at Bharohiya, that dates back to Mahabharata era, where he performed ‘jalabhishek’ and sought blessings for universal well-being. He also interacted with locals at Guru Gorakhnath Vidyapeeth campus, met children and encouraged young sportspersons during his visit.
