Shimla: The Shimla police have arrested an alleged drug trafficker, Vijender Singh alias Chhotu, near the Nepal border following a coordinated inter-state operation on Friday. The arrest was linked to an NDPS case registered earlier this month at Rohru police station. According to Shimla ASP Abhishek, the accused was apprehended near Vanvasa after remaining absconding for several days. Three cases related to “chitta” (heroin) traficking were already registered against him — two at Chirgaon police station and one at Rohru.
The investigation began on Feb 2, when the Rohru police recovered 83gm heroin from two Punjab residents identified as Jashandeep Singh and Dharmapreet Singh at Mehandli bridge. A detailed probe into their supply chain exposed a wider drug network. Subsequently, three local residents — Ashish Chauhan, Naveen Shetta and Diwan Chand — were arrested on Feb 10.During interrogation, the police identified Jashandeep Singh as a key supplier operating in Chirgaon and Rohru through a local distributor, later identified as Chhotu. Theinvestigators found that 120gm of heroin were sourced from Punjab on Feb 1, of which 37gm were supplied locally. After a 48-hour joint operation with the Uttarakhand and Nepal police, Chhotu was arrested on Friday. So far, six arrests have been made in this case. This year, the Shimla police have registered 48 NDPS cases and arrested 94 accused, said the ASP.
