Kolkata: Bengal chief secretary Nandini Chakravorty on Saturday held a meeting with the DMs and other senior officials to implement the Swanirbhar Bangla scheme, which was announced by CM Mamata Banerjee last week. The Swanirbhar Bangla comprises schemes like Banglar Yuva Sathi, Lakshmir Bhandar, the farm workers welfare scheme and the water tax waiver scheme for farmers, and camps will be organised in all assembly constituencies from Sunday.Registration for the scheme will remain open between Feb 15 and 26. Unemployed youths can enrol for the Banglar Yuva Sathi if they qualified the Madhyamik exam and are in the age group of 21 to 40 years. This scheme will entitle them to a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 from April for a maximum period of five years, if they fail to get a job during this period. The finance minister, Chandrima Bhattacharya, announced this scheme during the vote-on-account. The youths will get a direct bank transfer.
Similarly, women who are eligible but not yet enrolled can submit their forms for Lakshmir Bhandar. From Feb, women beneficiaries of the general caste get Rs 1,500 monthly, and those from SC/ST communities get Rs 1,700 monthly. For farm workers who are not enrolled even as sharecroppers, there will be a transfer of Rs 4,000 to these farmers who are without any land, and they will get it in 2 tranches. They can apply by Feb 26.
