Motihari: Deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday said the govt was continuously working for the welfare of farmers to make them economically strong and asserted that Bihar will soon emerge as a leading state in the field of agriculture.He was addressing a workshop of small and marginal farmers organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Dr Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University at Piprakothi in East Champaran. Earlier, deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary, Ram Kripal Yadav, minister of agriculture, and Radha Mohan Singh, former Union minister, jointly inaugurated the workshop by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Thousands of farmers participated in the event. Samrat Choudhary reiterated the resolve to take farming and agriculture to new heights.He further said that the goal of the Bihar govt is to double farmers’ income and make them self-reliant. The double-engine govt at the Centre and the state are working together on several schemes, the direct benefits of which are reaching farmers’ bank accounts. Emphasising the adoption of modern technology, he told farmers at the workshop that through the Animal Breeding Excellence Centre, a revolutionary change will come in the lives of milch animal rearers and farmers of Champaran. The govt is committed to providing all help and incentives to farmers so that the food providers of the state become economically empowered.Sharing the development road map for East Champaran, the deputy CM made major announcements. Along with the decision to reconstruct a large airport in Raxaul, he assured expansion of the existing airport in Motihari. He asked East Champaran DM Saurabh Jorwal to send a detailed report on the matter. He also assured that work to restart the closed sugar mills in Motihari and Chakiya will be initiated this year.Ram Kripal Yadav said Bihar is making all possible efforts to make farmers self-reliant. Radha Mohan Singh, MP, said PM Narendra Modi wants to make farmers strong, prosperous and happy, and in this direction the govts are working in the interest of farmers.
