Jaipur: The National Students Union of India (NSUI), led by state president Vinod Jakhar, organised a protest at Shaheed Smarak in the city Friday. The demonstration aimed to address the revelation of political leaders’ names in the Epstein files, alongside expressing opposition to the proposed India-US trade deal.Jakhar alleged that the current central govt’s policies are undermining India’s economic interests.
“The country’s foreign policy should be based on self-respect, equality, and national interests. The 0% tariff trade deal with the US could cause serious harm to Indian small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), farmers, the dairy sector, and domestic manufacturing. Allowing foreign companies duty-free access to the Indian market will impact the competitiveness of local industries, leading to a reduction in employment opportunities and economic imbalance,” said Jakhar. He alleged that, even on the highest democratic platform, Parliament, open discussion on this important trade deal is being avoided. He said that Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi is not being given the opportunity to present his views on this trade deal in Parliament, which is contrary to democratic traditions and parliamentary decorum. NSUI demanded transparency in decisions taken in the national interest and a reconsideration of controversial policies.“This is an attempt to suppress the voice of democracy. The central govt must reveal to the public the terms of any international agreement related to the national interest, and the nation’s economic and political self-respect must be ensured without compromise,” said Jakhar.
