Gurgaon: A 20-year-old man was arrested for raping his 16-year-old neighbour, filming the act, and trying to allegedly extort money from her by threatening to circulate the video if she reported him. The clip, however, reached the girl’s mother, who filed a complaint on Thursday.According to sources, the incident took place a year ago on Feb 12, 2025, and police received a formal complaint on Feb 12, 2026. The accused, a college student, lives near the girl and the two families have known each other for years. The incident took place at the girl’s house when nobody else was at home. When the video reached the girl’s mother, she confronted her daughter and the latter narrated her ordeal to her. The accused was booked under sections 308(2) (extortion), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 67B (obscene content involving children) of BNS, and under section 15 (failure to delete, destroy, or report child pornography that is in the possession of an accused person) and section 4 (penetrative sexual assault) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act at Bajghera police station.A police officer involved in the case said child welfare committee was informed after the case was registered and was asked to provide counselling for the girl. She recorded her statement before the judicial magistrate, after which the accused was arrested. An investigator said, “Proper protocol, as per the guidelines of the apex court, was followed. The accused has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.” In another case, a man, identified as Rahul, was held for repeatedly raping a 22-year-old woman. Police said they received a Zero FIR from another district, after which Rahul was booked under section 376(2)(n) (repeatedly committing rape on the same woman) and section 34 (criminal act committed by several persons) of IPC at Sadar Gurgaon police station.
