Jaipur: Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) minister Kanhaiya Lal Choudhary Friday assured the assembly that the state govt is working with a long-term plan to meet Jaipur city’s present and future drinking water requirements.Responding to attention motion moved by Malviya Nagar MLA Kalicharan Saraf, the minister said, “The state govt is implementing projects in a planned manner to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to Jaipur, keeping in view both current demand and future needs.”Choudhary informed the House that under Stage-II Phase-1 of the Bisalpur–Jaipur Drinking Water Project, a work order worth Rs173.16 crore was issued on March 12, 2020.“The scope of the project includes replacement of pumps at the intake pump house, construction of a new 216 MLD water treatment plant at Surajpura, and construction of 2 30 MLD clear water reservoirs along with pump houses and other allied works,” he said. However, the minister admitted that during the trial run of the newly constructed water treatment plant at Surajpura, it was found that the plant was not functioning at its full designed capacity. “The contractor was issued a notice and directed to rectify the deficiencies,” Choudhary told the House.He said the project was executed under a single-point responsibility contract. To ensure an independent technical assessment, the department appointed Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur as an expert agency. “After receiving the technical report from MNIT, necessary corrective measures will be undertaken. There will be no additional financial burden on the state govt,” he assured.Choudhary added the project work is ongoing, and the contract was extended on an interim basis until March 31, 2026.
