Ramgarh: Driver of a heavy container was burnt to death when his vehicle, on way to Ramgarh from Ranchi, caught fire after it rammed into a truck in Chutupalu valley on NH-33 on Friday. The incident happened under the jurisdiction of Ramgarh police station.The container’s driver was stuck in the cabin after the accident and was burnt to death as the vehicle caught fire, police said. The identity of the driver couldn’t be ascertained yet, police added.
Naveen Prakash Pandey, officer-in-charge of Ramgarh police station, said that the speeding container collided with a truck moving ahead after the former’s brake failed. The identity of the driver could not be ascertained till late in the evening. The deputy commissioner of Ramgarh, Faiz Aq Ahmad Mumtaz, said, “The 12 km highway stretch between Ranchi and Ramgarh is an accident-prone zone, and hence the administration and the National Highway Authority of India Limited (NHAI) have taken several steps, such as widening of the highway, bilingual accident alert signage, and rubber strips to control the speed of vehicles.”Ekta Kumari, project director of NHAI, said one of the causes of frequent accidents in the area is over-speeding, and they were looking forward to the installation of speedometers, in coordination with the local administration, for monitoring vehicle speed in the valley.
