Ahmedabad: An unarmed head constable was grievously injured after a car driver allegedly tried to run him over while he was managing traffic near the Thaltej metro station, where a drill was being conducted by the National Security Guard (NSG). The incident occurred around 3am on Friday. A case of attempted murder was registered against the accused. The victim, Sardarsinh Shivubha Solanki, 45, a head constable with Bodakdev police, filed the complaint from the emergency ward of a private hospital.
The FIR says Solanki and other officers were managing traffic during the drill to prevent vehicles from heading towards the metro station. When officers stationed near Thaltej village alerted them to an approaching vehicle, Solanki saw a white car speeding towards them. Despite repeated signals to stop, the driver allegedly accelerated and drove straight towards the policemen. Solanki was flung onto the car’s bonnet and windscreen before he fell onto the road as the car sped away. He suffered multiple injuries, including fractures below the left knee and in the left shoulder, and injuries to his elbow, waist, and right leg. Other cops chased and intercepted the car. The accused driver has been identified as Yash Soni, 20, a Naroda resident who works at a spa in Shilaj.Police sub-inspector Y Y Chauhan of Bodakdev police station said the accused was booked for attempted murder and other offences. Further investigation is underway.
