Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has allowed Madhu Singh, the wife of Hussainabad MLA Kamlesh Kumar Singh, to travel abroad for her medical treatment.Holding it to be a fundamental right to seek medical treatment abroad, the court court of Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi on February 3 disposed of a petition filed by Madhu, who is suffering from a chronic liver ailment, allowing her to travel to the USA and the UK for her treatment. The court modified the conditions of bail granted to her on May 13, 2014, under which her passport was deposited before the lower court.Madhu is an accused in a case registered by the CBI for disproportionate assets. She had pleaded before the HC that she cooperated in the trial of the case. From a list of 100 prosecution witnesses, only 46 witnesses were examined so far. The trial will take time to conclude, with the remaining 54 witnesses yet to be examined, Singh informed the court.Madhu also said that she is a patient suffering from chronic liver disease and was medically diagnosed as being in the pre-cancer stage. The High Court held that since Madhu was not convicted yet and was facing trial, she should be allowed to travel abroad for her medical treatment. Her passport was already deposited earlier while granting bail to her on May 13, 2014, as per the condition of the High Court. The High Court, while allowing her prayer to go abroad, directed that her passport be released in her favour and that she give an undertaking before the CBI of her date of travel and return plans to the court in advance. The HC said that Madhu will have to take prior permission of the CBI court whenever she plans to travel abroad for treatment.
