Margao: Opposition MLAs held a joint meeting on Tuesday ahead of the budget session commencing on March 6, and decided to corner govt over various issues plaguing the state.Leader of opposition Yuri Alemao, addressing reporters after the meeting, condemned the ‘short session’ of just 14 days. “The budget session must be at least 15 days, though we were assured it would be 21 days. Govt is scared of facing the opposition,” he said.
Alemao said the opposition would soon write to the speaker and meet the governor, requesting them to prevail upon govt to extend assembly sessions. This would allow the opposition time to raise issues concerning the state and its people. All MLAs from opposition parties attended the meeting, which was held to formulate a joint strategy for the assembly session, Alemao said. The MLAs discussed several key issues, including the environment, unemployment, the healthcare crisis, deteriorating law and order, and other matters affecting the state.GFP president Vijai Sardesai raised concerns about the budget session being further curtailed if the Ponda bypoll is announced.
