Jaisalmer: Protests to save Oran and Gochar land in Ramgarh intensified Monday after villagers learnt that land near Kalra Tala had been allotted to a solar company. The agitation, ongoing for a month against allocation of grazing land to Dalmia-linked projects, took the form of a mass rally.Thousands from the Khadal area, including women, elderly and children, took out a ‘public outrage rally’ from the Shriram temple, raising slogans for Oran-Gochar conservation. A public meeting was held where Bal Bharati Maharaj warned the govt against diverting grazing land. Participants later performed aarti of Bharat Mata and marched to the tehsil office.
At Ramgarh tehsil, protesters staged a sit-in and women submitted a memorandum to the CM through the tehsildar. Locals said livestock rearing is their sole livelihood and diversion of Oran-Gochar land—home to shrines, water bodies and wildlife—would harm the environment and push communities into crisis.
