Jaipur: The Rajasthan govt is set to establish a Centre of Excellence for Climate Change and a Clean and Green Technology Development Centre in Jagatpura, following the signing of key Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with IIT-Jodhpur and MNIT Jaipur.Until the infrastructure at Jagatpura is completed, both centres will operate within the campuses of the partnering institutions. A senior official from the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) said, “The initiative is part of the previous budget announcement. We earmarked the land, and the stone-laying ceremony is expected to take place before 5 June. The project will take one year to complete.”
The Clean and Green Technology Development Centre, to be established at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore, will aim to promote environmental protection, generate employment, and support sustainable economic growth simultaneously.“The centre will prioritise green skilling, the conversion of waste into resources to advance a circular economy, and the development of pollution-control technologies. Research and data hubs will be created to provide students, officials, and the public with knowledge and tools to address environmental challenges,” added the official.According to the MoU, the Centre of Excellence for Climate Change will develop advanced regional climate models, centralised climate data systems, risk and impact assessments, adaptation and mitigation tools, and early warning systems. “These centres will serve as technical knowledge partners for the state, supporting climate-related policy, research, and practical interventions,” said the official. The MOUs define a joint management framework to oversee operations, ensure coordination with key state and national agencies, and monitor progress. The centres will also collaborate with other academic and research institutions, expand training programmes, and implement pilot projects in both urban and rural areas. The initiatives are designed to tackle climate and environmental challenges across multiple sectors, including water, agriculture, health, forests and biodiversity, energy, and urban governance. They will also focus on public awareness, sustainable production, and monitoring environmental compliance through digital and IoT tools.Officials said the development of advanced clean and green technologies, along with proper classification and evaluation of resources, is expected to create new opportunities for investment, livelihoods, and employment in the state. “The centres are envisioned as long-term platforms for innovation, capacity building, and sustainable development,” said the RSPCB official.
