Chennai: City residents woke up to foggy conditions for the second consecutive day across the city and suburbs on Monday. While the chances of dense fog, witnessed on Sunday, are less likely, the IMD forecast mist, a lighter form of fog during early morning hours in the city and neighbouring districts until Feb 13.“On Tuesday, the city and the suburbs may experience dry weather with mist or haze during the early morning hours. Skies may remain clear in the morning and turn partly cloudy later in the day. Temperatures may hover around a maximum of 31°C and a minimum of 21°C,” an IMD bulletin said.
The agency forecast mist or haze in isolated pockets over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet districts during early morning hours until Feb 13.Meteorologists said fog formed on Sunday due to the interaction of warm air with a colder surface as night temperatures dropped, leading to condensation of moisture into tiny droplets near the ground. Mist forms through the same process but is thinner, with visibility above 1 km, while fog reduces visibility to below 1 km.Until Feb 13, maximum temperatures may remain 1°C–2°C above normal, while minimum temperatures may be 1°C–2°C below normal in isolated places across Tamil Nadu.
