What are the allegations against Rajpal Yadav?
According to reports by Hindustan Times, a case was filed against Rajpal Yadav and his wife, Radha Yadav, in 2018. The company, which was the plaintiff in this case, alleged that the two of them had taken out a loan of Rs 5 crore in 2010. The amount was to be used for the production of the film ‘Ata Pata Lapata’, and an additional Rs 8 crore amount was also promised to be returned. Later on, the amount was reduced to Rs 7 crore in total; however, all of the cheques issued by the ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’ actor bounced.
Timeline of Rajpal Yadav’s cheque bounce case
The issue itself first came to light back in 2018, when a company filed a case against the actor for a series of bounced cheques. Later on, after cases were filed against the couple, a magisterial court convicted the actor of breaching trust and was charged with six months of jail under Section 138 (dishonour of cheque) of the Negotiable Instruments Act. In 2019, a sessions court upheld the order; however, Yadav and his wife filed revision petitions in the Delhi High Court against the order. Later in 2024, the six-month sentence, which had been delayed over the years, was suspended by the Delhi High Court. Last year, the actor’s legal reps declared that a demand draft of Rs 40 lakhs had been prepped, and the remaining Rs 2.10 crore was going to be paid by January 19. A hearing was held on February 4 this year, where the court officially refused to grant any more delays in the court-ordered 6-month jail sentence.
