NAMAKKAL: A Class III girl died on Monday after she fainted and fell ill while taking part in rehearsals for a cultural programme at a school in Namakkal district on Sunday.The deceased has been identified as nine-year-old Rakshita, daughter of Matheswaran and Dhanalakshmi of Kavundampalayam.The Kumaramangalam Panchayat Union, which was established in 1926, was to hold its centenary celebrations on Monday. Rakshita, who was taking part in the rehearsals for cultural programmes, fainted and developed rashes on her body. “She suffered seizures,” said a police official at the Tiruchengode rural police station. Her parents were called. She was taken to the Tiruchengode Government Hospital, from where she was referred to Namakkal Govt Medical College and Hospital. She died on Monday. The Tiruchengode rural police registered a case and began investigations. “The cause of her death will be known only after the postmortem report is received,” the officer added.Following her death, the school centenary celebrations were cancelled.
