Panaji: Fatorda police on Saturday arrested Sahil alias Spyki, a resident of Navelim, in connection with the murder of 40-year-old Ali Khan, vice-president of Sunni Gulistan Masjid at Gogol Housing Board, Margao.Police said the accused has been remanded in four days’ police custody.
Six accused were arrested earlier, and bail applications of some of them are expected to be heard in court later this week. Those initially arrested include Nizamuddin Sayyed, Firoz Sheikh, Akram Khan, Ubed Makandar, Alam Sayyed and Rizwan Sheikh.Police had earlier detained five persons, during a combing operation for interrogation. The mosque was sealed after the murder.Police said the crime stemmed from a dispute between rival groups over donation money collected from marriages and events.
