Chennai: A revenue officer of the electricity board was arrested for accepting a bribe of 15,000 from a farmer to provide electricity connection to a newly constructed house and shops near Avadi.Balasubramani, 47, works as a revenue officer with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. According to police, Raghavan, 50, a farmer from Kovilpathagai, constructed a two-storey house with two shops on the ground floor and applied for electricity connections.
Police said the official demanded 15,000 to process the connections. Unwilling to pay the bribe, Raghavan approached the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Tiruvallur and lodged a complaint. DVAC officials set up a trap.On Friday afternoon, when Balasubramani accepted the money, a team caught him red-handed. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody. TNN
