Kollam: Excise department on Saturday seized over 6kg of ganja and arrested a suspected key supplier during an inspection in the city.The seizure was made by a team led by excise inspector P Shankar at Mekone junction around 10.25pm. A total of 6.050kg of ganja, allegedly smuggled in a car for sale, was recovered during the operation. The arrested person was identified as Alshad S, 33, a native of Kilikollur village in Kollam. An NDPS case has been registered against him. According to excise officials, Alshad is suspected to be a key link in the supply chain involved in bringing ganja into Kerala from drug networks operating in Tamil Nadu. Apart from the contraband, officials seized a car and three mobile phones from the accused. The inspection team included civil excise officers, preventive officers and assistant excise inspectors. Officials said further searches and follow-up operations would be conducted based on information obtained.
