Kanpur: As many as 384 chess players from across India, including international masters (IMs), will take part in the first FIDE-rated Open Chess Championship, carrying a prize money of Rs 2 lakh, at the IIT-K campus on Saturday. Organised by the IIT Chess Club, the tournament will see the participation of 95 women and 289 men players, including two international masters, one FIDE Master, three AGMs, two CMs, two AIMs, three ACMs and five AFMs, said Kanpur Chess Association secretary Dilip Srivastava.
A total of nine rounds will be played with a time control of 12+5 minutes. The winner will take home Rs 40,000, while the second and third place holders will receive Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.
