Bengaluru: Days after the collapse of a stretch of Hosur Road (NH-44) at Chandapura during the construction of a vehicular overpass Thursday, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said it has initiated measures to ease congestion in the area.An NHAI official said the service road on the Bengaluru–Hosur side is being widened to facilitate smoother traffic flow. “The work will be completed by Feb 9, after which Hosur-bound vehicles will be diverted onto the service road. On the opposite carriageway, where the incident occurred, construction of the retaining wall is under way. Once completed, traffic towards Bengaluru will be restored,” the official said.NHAI clarified the road did not cave in entirely but witnessed a localised soil collapse at a site where deep excavation of around 7.7 metres was in progress for the underpass. NHAI also said it has sought expert opinion from geotechnical expert G L Shivakumar Babu to assess the ongoing construction works. The vehicular overpass at Chandapura is being built to eliminate an accident-prone black spot on the highway.
