Bengaluru: A 62-year-old woman has filed a police complaint alleging that gold and diamond ornaments, cash, and medicines were stolen from her checked-in baggage during her journey from Bengaluru to Abu Dhabi in Nov 2025.According to the complaint filed by Shanta Ramesh Kashinkunti, a resident of Hubballi, with KIA police on Jan 31, she is a US citizen who returned to India around five years ago. She often travels to the US as her children live there.She came to Hubballi in Aug last year and booked a flight to Abu Dhabi through CheapOair for travel on Nov 15, 2025. She alleged that she carried around 790 grams of gold ornaments, diamond jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh, medicines worth Rs 20,000, and $200 in a bag, as she planned to fly to the US from Abu Dhabi.She said that while at KIA, she felt giddy as she was diabetic, and handed over her baggage to airline staff for check-in. After landing in Abu Dhabi and collecting the baggage, she found it unusually light. On checking the bag, she discovered that the valuables were missing. She lodged a complaint with the Abu Dhabi airport authorities and Akasa Airlines customer service, who advised her to file a complaint in Bengaluru.She travelled from Abu Dhabi to the US before returning to Bengaluru on Jan 7. “My friends and relatives told me that I must produce bills for the ornaments as they are worth close to Rs 2 crore. I visited the jewellers from whom I had purchased the ornaments and filed a complaint with the police on Jan 31 along with the bills,” Shanta said.
