Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Thursday launched a scathing attack on both the BRS and Congress, accusing their combined 12-year rule of pushing the state into debt without delivering real development.Addressing party leaders during a presentation on the Congress-BRS tenure, Rao alleged that urban governance had collapsed under successive govts and charged the Congress with failing to implement its election promises, including the much-touted ‘six guarantees’.
He alleged that political morality under the Congress govt had collapsed, pointing to BRS defectors joining the ruling party as a betrayal of the people’s mandate. Reiterating his warning that ‘a vote for BRS is a vote for Congress’, Rao called on voters to back the BJP. With the slogan ‘Save Telangana-Vote for BJP’, he appealed to people to vote for the lotus symbol in the upcoming municipal elections to ensure transparency, accountability and genuine urban development. Debt burden risingHe said all 123 municipalities in Telangana together were burdened with debts of around ₹3,600 crore, while the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation alone carried liabilities of about ₹5,000 crore. The BJP leader accused the Congress govt of replacing development with corruption and exploitation, claiming that it had borrowed nearly ₹80,000 crore in just one year, pushing the state into what he described as a debt trap. Rao also flagged what he called a steady deterioration in law and order, rising unemployment and worsening infrastructure, and alleged that the Revanth Reddy govt was resorting to communal politics to retain power. He referred to an increase in attacks on Hindu temples and accused the Congress of misusing govt land to further vote-bank politics. Warning voters against the BRS, Rao said supporting the regional party would effectively amount to backing the Congress. He asserted that urban development in Telangana had been funded by the Centre, which, he claimed, had released nearly ₹12 lakh crore to the state over the past 11 years. According to Rao, ₹9,512 crore was spent on projects related to national highways, railways and the AMRUT mission, while the poor directly benefited from central schemes such as PM SVANidhi, Mudra Yojana and Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.
