DHARMASAGAR: A woman was partially stripped, assaulted and tonsured in Tatikayala village of Dharmasagar mandal in Hanumakonda district, in an incident that took place a week ago. The issue came to light only after a complaint was filed with the police by the husband of the victim.According to villagers, a married man from Tatikayala had been in a relationship with another woman from Bollonipally village in neighbouring Mulugu district. The man had been married to his wife for 20 years, and they have two children. His wife, upset over the affair, had confronted him several times, but he continued to see the other woman from Bollonipally. The situation escalated further when the wife accused her husband of trying to set her on fire during a previous dispute.Seeking community support, the wife called for a village panchayat and summoned both her husband and the other woman to attend. During the confrontation, the wife and her relatives allegedly attacked the couple. In the scuffle, the woman’s clothes were torn, and the man’s shirt was ripped. Both were then reportedly stripped and forcibly tonsured.Village elders later intervened, separated the parties, and tried to settle the matter through counselling. After the incident, the woman returned to her Bollonipally while man reportedly fled from area. In the following days, videos and photos of the woman in a partially disrobed state were allegedly circulated on social media by members of wife’s family, causing further distress. On learning about the incident and the circulation of the videos, the woman’s husband filed a complaint with Dharmasagar police, seeking action. Kazipet ACP Pingili Prashanth Reddy confirmed that a case has been filed. He clarified that while the woman’s clothes were torn during the assault, she was not deliberately stripped. He said the investigation is currently underway.
