Ahmedabad: Gujarat University (GU) on Thursday accepted the proposal to waive certain fees for the 12 medical students and resident doctors who were injured in the June 12 AI 171 crash. They include two first-year students, eight second-year students, one radiology resident, and one final-year physiotherapy student. Their educational term, enrolment, and exam fees will be waived, said officials. The proposal was sent through the Junior Doctors’ Association. Dr Meenaxi Parikh, dean of BJ Medical College, said that the students suffered 20-30% burn injuries, fractures, and some required stitches. Some of the injured were admitted to Civil Hospital, while others are still recuperating at a private hospital in the city. The aviation disaster claimed the lives of four medical students, and some resident doctors lost their family members.
