Mysuru: The forest department has secured 10 acres of disputed land near Lingabudhi lake, estimated to be worth nearly Rs 200 crore, after a Supreme Court order ended a 33-year legal battle. It is considering developing the vacant land into a public park. The land forms part of a 12-acre property that was subject to prolonged litigation. After the high court ruled against the department, it challenged the verdict in Supreme Court and secured 10 acres.Officials have since removed unauthorised occupation and initiated measures to prevent encroachment. The department plans to construct a compound wall to protect the property, which had remained largely neglected during the litigation.Deputy conservator of forests Paramesha K said the department’s efforts had yielded results after more than three decades. “After a legal battle spanning nearly 33 years, we have managed to secure 10 acres near Lingabudhi lake, valued at more than Rs 200 crore. The land will serve as a green lung for the city, and we are considering developing it into a public park. Although the verdict in the high court went against us, we got a verdict in our favour at the Supreme Court,” he said. The proposed park requires a development plan and necessary approvals.
