Thousands of supporters of Serbia’s student movement gathered in Belgrade for a major rally ahead of the parliamentary election. Crowds packed Slavija Square, waving Serbian flags, chanting and lighting flares in support of the “Students Win” electoral list. The movement emerged after the deadly 2024 Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse, which killed 16 people and triggered months of anti-government protests. Its candidate list includes university professors, actors, farmers and a popular rapper. A poll published by NSPM on October 20 put the student-backed list at 44.5%, ahead of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party at 42.7%.
