Jhansi: A Jhansi court on Thursday cancelled the non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against actor Rakhi Sawant on Oct 16 in a 2010 criminal case, taking into consideration an application filed by her counsel citing an earlier Allahabad high court order restraining coercive action against her.The court of the civil judge, CAW-Fast Track Court (FTC), passed the order after examining the HC order dated Dec 7, 2011, on a petition filed by Sawant under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The HC had directed that no coercive action be taken against her until further orders. The court had issued an NBW against Sawant for failing to appear in the case involving the alleged abetment of the suicide of a 24-year-old man who was reportedly humiliated on her reality show, ‘Rakhi Ka Insaaf’.The case originated in the Prem Nagar police station area, where Savitri Devi lodged an FIR following the death of her son, Laxman Prasad Ahirwar. Laxman had married Anita on Feb 19, 2010, but the couple frequently had disputes over various issues.According to the complaint, the couple’s marital dispute was discussed on Sawant’s reality show. During the programme, Sawant allegedly made derogatory remarks against Laxman. His family alleged that the incident left him deeply distressed and damaged his social reputation. He subsequently went into depression and ended his life in Nov 2010 at Jhansi Medical College. The family alleged that the public humiliation and resulting distress contributed to his death.A day after the court issued a non-bailable warrant against her, she claimed that she was merely a host of the reality show and had spoken as directed by the channel.
